Annual Board Meeting 2016

Every year we host our Annual Board Meeting in May, an opportunity for staff and students to express gratitude to the Board of Managers who help support the programs that we offer to the community.  As an added bonus, this is also an evening when we celebrate successful students and program participants.

As a teen Saldana found herself pregnant and a high school drop out. She shares her inspiring story of going from teen mom to college-bound role model.

Learn her story and hear her emotional speech here.

Two students from our Smith YABC performed poetry that they composed about experiences in the program. Our YABC programs give young adults a second chance at earning their high school diplomas. Watch the talented Robert and Corrina deliver their heart-felt compositions to an audience of staff, board members and peers:

Students from Middle School 391 gave a cooking demonstration, making the connection to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), which is becoming increasingly important in the curriculum of New York City public schools. Staff use cooking to provide hands-on examples of math in real life situations. Through culinary lessons, students practice measurement, fractions, chemistry, and more. Six lucky attendees got to sample the fresh chicken tacos prepared by the children.
