Title: Community Liaison to Start Small. Think Big., Inc.
Location: East Side House Settlement, 337 Alexander Avenue, Bronx, NY

GENERAL OVERVIEW:
East Side House Settlement has recently partnered with Start Small. Think Big., Inc. (“Start Small”), a newly established not-for-profit organization, to incorporate personal financial education and counseling, civil legal services, public benefits counseling and small business assistance into its core services. The mission of Start Small is to provide low-income working families in the South Bronx with the tools that they need to increase their economic opportunities and build sustainable financial independence.

The Community Liaison to Start Small will conduct client outreach, assessment, intake, and case coordination for all Start Small clients and will develop and implement strategies to increase the visibility and utilization of Start Small services within the East Side House Settlement and South Bronx community. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Start Small, with latitude for independent judgment, the Community Liaison will be responsible to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability required, but are not limited to:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conducting community outreach/education to identify potential Start Small clients within the East Side House Settlement and South Bronx community.
• Conducting follow-up interviews with all Start Small clients to evaluate client progress and program impact.
• Developing and maintaining partnerships with other community-based/non-profit agencies, as appropriate, to collaborate in outreach efforts.

• Working closely with East Side House Settlement and outside agencies and service providers to facilitate case coordination and information sharing.

• Collaborating with East Side House Settlement and Start Small volunteers/pro bono service providers to develop and plan program innovations based on research and experience gained during outreach efforts.
• Visiting each Start Small program site regularly. Gaining familiarity with programming strengths and tailoring outreach strategies and materials to focus on strengths and new innovations at each program location.
• Overseeing all outreach/communications via the Start Small list serve (the bi-monthly newsletters, the weekly program updates, flyers, brochures, etc.).
• Overseeing Start Small’s appointment calendars.
• Developing and maintaining Start Small’s client/volunteer/partner database.
• Submitting monthly reports tracking services provided and number of clients served.
• Representing Start Small in community and inter-agency activities, as assigned by Start Small’s Executive Director.
• Attending appropriate training programs, as requested by Start Small’s Executive Director.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field desired. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Experience working with low-income, minority populations preferred. Ability to work independently is essential. The ideal candidate will be creative, hard working, and willing to search out new opportunities and tasks. Strong verbal communication skills, excellent organizational ability, time management, and interpersonal skills required. Excellent computer skills preferred.
