ACTIVITY SPECIALIST

Program: Service Learning
Location: Mitchel Community Center

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Activity Specialist is expected to perform each essential duty of this position in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability required, but not limited to:

Education/ Experience:

  • Some college or high school diploma/GED with significant in-service training on youth development programming. At least three years of experience with youth-related work (13 – 21 years old). Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage participants.
  • One year experience with Service Learning Programming
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel)



Duties and Responsibilities: The Activity Specialist is responsible for implementing service learning curriculum and activities. They are to work to ensure youth choices as activities are implemented. Areas of responsibility shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Implement service learning curriculum.
  • Interface with service learning partners to organize service learning activities and opportunities.
  • Engage and assist participants with service learning assignments and projects.
  • Organize and schedule local trips and activities in accordance with program needs.
  • Recommend, develop and facilitate activities that provide participants an opportunity for growth.
  • Maintain an awareness of individual needs of participants; consult with Program Coordinator, teachers, or other designated staff for guidance and/or referral.
  • Supervise mentors or volunteers working with group.
  • Perform administrative record keeping, i.e. attendance, health/ emergency records, and other assigned functions.
  • Submit documentation in regards to program activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings and program in-service trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Work Schedule: At the discretion of the supervisor, the Activity Specialist must:

  • Work during program hours (actual hours will vary depending upon program site.
  • Be able to maintain a flexible schedule for service learning activities as scheduled including during school breaks or holidays.



Position Available:October 1, 2007 – June 30, 2008 Salary: $15.00 /hr
