Program Page: Career Internship Program
This program is in the Community Based Programs / Community Outreach Department.
Designed for High School students ages 13-18, the Career Internship Program allows each student to explore career options and sharpen important vocational skills. Not all students want to attend college; some plan to enter the workforce immediately upon High School graduation. East Side House’s educational programs give these students a solid foundation not only in academic skills but also in vocational skills and the unwritten rules of the workplace, to which many of our students have never been exposed. Few students know anyone who wears a suit or works in an office; fewer still aspire to any professional field outside athletics. In interviews with over 150 youth in the last three years, most were not able to identify any meaningful interaction with professionals. Students will be able to demonstrate professional conduct through appropriate dress and regular attendance. They will demonstrate platform skills by completing presentation projects. Interns observe and take notes on different careers at East Side House Settlement as well as interview a professional. Our Career Internship Program is an exciting program gives students an exciting opportunity to explore career options.
