Program: EAST SIDE HOUSE/HEAD START - DAY CARE PROGRAM

LOCATION: MHCC– 375 East 143rd Street, Bronx, NY 10454

General Description:

Under the general supervision of the Social Service Director and Site Supervisor, the Family Worker will interview all parents of the Head Start/Day Care children, to identify social service needs of the children and their parents, and to make appropriate referral of the family to community resources. Tasks will include:

  • Interviewing and registering parents at the center
  • Home visits where possible and appropriate
  • Escorting parents to community agencies
  • Interpreting for the parents when necessary
  • Making phone contacts and referrals to community agencies
  • Functioning as an advocate in helping to secure needed social services for the family



Help parents develop an active parent participation program. Tasks will include:

  • Welcoming all parents to the centers daily
  • Arranging daily refreshments and setting up parents room
  • Interpreting the center’s programs to the parents, community leaders, agency representatives, and other interested community members
  • Taking initial responsibility for arranging parent’s activities according to Head Start guidelines. Assisting in scheduling and conducting class committee meetings
  • Helping to recognize and develop leadership within the parent’s group, to enable them to elect officers and representatives on all levels
  • Facilitate elected officials to assume leadership in developing a meaningful parent program, and affording all parents an opportunity for decision making on educational, cultural, recreational, and social action activities
  • Facilitate and monitor the parent’s fund along with the Director, Fiscal Officer and Treasurer of the Parent Group
  • Acting as a resource person to the parents in all their activities
  • Support community residents, parents and program participant’s active involvement in agency community building efforts as well as complete tasks necessary to move these efforts forward including serving on community building committees as assigned by supervisor.



QUALIFICATIONS:


High School Diploma or equivalency, community person, some experience with community services and/or college credits.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical examination to show the individual is free from all communicable diseases.



Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm

SALARY: $23,867 - $26,864
