Group Leader
PROGRAM : Summer Program
LOCATION: Community Centers
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Group Leader is expected to perform each essential duty of this position in a satisfactorily manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Attending college with at least one year of experience with youth-related work or H.S. Diploma with at least two years of experience in community based organization setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage participants.
- Some supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community service/development.
- Basic computer skills a plus.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
•The Group Leader is responsible for implementing and monitoring the educational and recreational programs and activities. Areas of responsibility shall include but are not limited to the following:
•Organize and provide support and/or leadership for groups where the primary program emphasis is to encourage learning, make constructive use of leisure time, develop leadership skills, and enhance social development.
•Work collaboratively with skill developers in implementing the daily lesson plans in a thematic approach.
•Engage and assist participants with classroom assignments and projects.
•Organize and schedule local trips and activities in accordance with the academic curriculum.
•Recommend, develop, and facilitate activities that provide participants an opportunity for growth.
•Maintain an awareness of individual needs of participants, consulting with center director, program coordinator ,skill developer, or other designated staff for guidance and/or referral.
•Supervise junior counselors, volunteers, and aides assigned to the group.
•Perform administrative record keeping, ie; attendance, health/emergency records, and other functions as assigned.
•Write and submit daily activity schedule, weekly narrative reports, and program assessment.
Work Schedule: At the discretion of the supervisor, the Group Leader must:
•Work a flexible schedule between Monday thru Friday; and flexible hours from 8:00am – 6:00pm,
•Be able to maintain a flexible schedule during trips, special events, and activities as required.
