Program Description
East Side House has served the Mott Haven section of the Bronx since 1963. East Side House created the College Preparation and Leadership Program (CPLP) to augment the opportunities offered by Mott Haven Village Preparatory High School. CPLP runs twice-weekly classes on financial literacy as well as college and career readiness during the school day and after-school for all students in 9th-12th-grade. In addition, CPLP prepares students for post-secondary success by organizing college trips, helping students navigate the admissions process and supporting alumni to and through college.

Position Description
This position requires a dynamic individual who can wear many hats and serve various needs. Designing and delivering strong lesson plans is critical to this position – professional development will be available to ensure quality instruction. Particular attention will be paid to teaching literacy as most of our students enter high school reading well below grade-level.
There is also an after-school component to this position, which provides opportunities to develop relationships with students and support them with the myriad challenges they face outside of school.

Responsibilities
• Develop and deliver lesson plans on the skills and knowledge 9th-graders need to successfully transition into high school and prepare for college and a career
• Collaborate with literacy coach to ensure lessons have a strong focus on ramping up students’ reading levels
• Manage and support multiple after-school programs
• Communicate all pertinent information in regular meetings with school and CBO personnel
• Creatively develop innovative solutions to myriad challenges as they arise
• Other duties as assigned by program director; responsibilities will involve evenings and weekends, on occasion


Experience, Education and Personal Qualities
• Bachelor’s and 1+ year experience of youth-related work, ideally in a high school and/or instructional setting

• Instructional experience and classroom management highly preferred

• Demonstrated record of positively influencing youth, especially male students

• Proven history of humility, relentlessness and overcoming challenges

• Collegial nature that allows for strong relationships with colleagues, students and supervisors

• Excellent ability to clearly and professionally communicate information to different audiences

• Spanish proficiency advantageous but not required

Salary
Salary range is $30,000-$35,000, based on experience and qualifications. East Side House Settlement offers a benefits package.
