General Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Executive Director, the Program Coordinator, with latitude for independent judgment, will be responsible for overseeing the complete operation of the program within the school, implementing and monitoring the educational and recreational activities for students. Areas of responsibility shall include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work collaboratively with Principal, educators, and school support staff to plan and implement a comprehensive school-based after school program to meet the needs of 120 elementary school students and their families. Designed to support the academic and developmental success of children, the program will include a rich mixture of academic support, project-based learning opportunities, arts and cultural enrichment and structured physical activities.
- Manage program contract to ensure compliance with regulations, expectations, work plans and procedures
- Meet regularly with Program Coordinator of PS 277 to communicate program strengths, enhancements, adjustments, challenges, and concerns that can affect productivity and effectiveness of the program.
- Maintain an awareness of individual needs of students in an array of areas that include education, attendance, social and leadership development and adapt program to meet those needs in consultation with the Program Coordinator of PS 277, Principal, teachers, or other support staff.
- Develop, organize, and schedule program activities and/or trips that provide students with an opportunity for growth. Ensure that programs are aligned to Dept. of Education academic performance standards and are developed around principles of positive youth development.
- Hire, supervise and provide leadership and support for staff.
- Supervise and evaluate support staff and adhere to personnel policies and procedures.
- Establish reporting systems such as student record keeping, i.e. attendance, health/ emergency records, progress notes, staff meetings, monthly and quarterly narrative and expense reports, program assessment.
- Attend administrative meetings, program trainings and staff development.
- Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned.
- Maintain flexible hours and work days.
Education/ Experience:
- B.A/ B.S.W. with at least two years experience working with schools or non profits working in schools.
- Essential: demonstrated knowledge of the principles of positive youth development and affinity for working with children and families.
- Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, communication, organizational skills.
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to represent the organization.
- Supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and handle multi-tasks.
- Strong interpersonal skills and time management skills. Must have a sense of humor and common sense!
- Knowledge and experience in WordPerfect/ Microsoft Word and other applications.
- Helpful related skills/experience: counseling, program development, community organizing. Experience with program start-ups a plus.
- Knowledge of Spanish helpful but not essential.
