Program Description
East Side House created the College Preparation and Leadership Program (CPLP) to augment the opportunities offered by Mott Haven Village Preparatory High School. CPLP runs regular classes on college and career readiness during the school day and after-school for students in 9th-12th-grade. In addition, CPLP prepares students for post-secondary success by organizing college trips, leading after-school programming, helping students navigate the admissions process and supporting alumni through college.
Position Description
This position requires a dynamic individual who feels comfortable managing different groups of people. The role is twofold: to build and maintain internal and external relationships, and to support the program staff in executing their mission of providing college and career readiness services to current and former students. The program director is also the point-person for a range of government grants the organization has received. A successful candidate will be highly organized and have demonstrated ability in prioritizing and competently executing a long and shifting list of tasks.
Primary Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with school and program staff in implementing and integrating a multifaceted program (e.g. college and career readiness classes, after-school activities, college trips, scholarship program, etc.)
Manage staff by providing various levels and types of support, as needed; adhere to personnel policies and procedures; conduct regular team meetings
Oversee the coordination and supervision of all local and regional day and overnight educational and recreational trips
Establish and maintain flexible data-tracking systems for grant and budget monitoring, program implementation, etc; complete internal agency reports and external funding source reports
Maintain and manage collaborative partnerships
Present programs progress to the Board of Directors and assist in program preparations for Board Meetings
Attend agency/school and other meetings, program trainings, and staff development.
Meet regularly with Assistant Executive Director of Programs and school principal to communicate program updates, enhancements and/or challenges in order to receive feedback
Communicate all pertinent information in regular meetings with school and CBO personnel
Creatively develop innovative solutions to myriad challenges as they arise
Other duties as assigned by Assistant Executive Director of Programs; responsibilities will involve occasional evenings and weekends
Experience, Education and Personal Qualities
Bachelors degree and 3+ years of experience of youth-related work, ideally in a high school setting, preferably in a management capacity with demonstrated impact of leadership
Deep knowledge of and passion about college and career readiness and youth development
Ability to manage multiple projects at once with frequent and changing deadlines
Proven history of relentlessness and commitment to overcoming challenges
Collegial and team-oriented nature that allows for strong relationships with colleagues, students and supervisors
Excellent ability to clearly and professionally communicate information to different audiences
Instructional experience and classroom management preferred
Spanish proficiency advantageous but not required
