Resource Specialist / Evening Program (After School Tutorial)


LOCATION: Various Community Centers




DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Resource Specialist will provide services to youth that will support their performance in and/or attendance at school. This will include helping them set personal goals, resolve personal barriers, develop life skills such as time management and assist them with their school work through direct homework assistance or with other services that support this (such as monitored computer time).


Specific Duties:
• Facilitate workshops on specific issues related to academic and life success for youth.
• Staff a “resource room” for homework and/or computer assistance.
• Assist youth with setting short and long term goals through values clarification and teaching goal setting techniques.
• Meet individually with youth to discuss personal issues and assess need for referrals for additional services.
• Lead “rap groups” for youth.
• Complete required documentation in regards to service.
• Serve as an “advisor” to an assigned group of youth.
• Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:
At least one year of college and 2 years of experience working with high risk youth including experience facilitating and/or leading groups or High School Diploma and 3 years of specifically related experience. Experience in social service setting preferred. Additional education can be substituted for experience. Demonstrated ability to relate to youth. Team player with a passion for assisting youth in accessing life opportunities.


PAY RATE: $15/hr Hours: 4 – 6 hours per week, generally between 6 – 9 p.m. (to be arranged)
