STUDENT LIAISON

PROGRAM: CHAMPS/Attendance Improvement Dropout Prevention (AIDP)

LOCATION: Health Opportunities High School, 350 Gerard Avenue, Bronx, NY 10454

INTRODUCTION: The Attendance Improvement Dropout Prevention (AIDP) Program at Health Opportunities High School provides counseling, mentorship, and support services for students with serious attendance problems. Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Student Liaison will assist in all aspects of the AIDP program, including program planning, working with students, and administrative tasks.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required. Preferably along the lines of social work, counseling, education, or social justice
  • Experience working with teenagers is a big plus
  • Ability to work independently is essential
  • Computer literacy with word processing and internet programs, with knowledge of Microsoft Excel and basic design software (creating flyers, etc)
  • Strong verbal and communication skills, with the ability to do outreach
  • Spanish speaking a plus!
  • Minimum 1-3 years working with a non-profit and/ or school setting



DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Outreach to prospective students for our programs, including conducting house visits, phone calls, and meetings
  • Create systems for organizing and tracking attendance data and student progress
  • Serve as a resource for students and staff entering the office, including informal counseling, academic help, and referrals.
  • Conduct one on one and small group counseling sessions with students addressing career and educational interests and concerns
  • Assist in the planning and running of activities and trips
  • Make phone calls to parents about student progress
  • Create flyers and conduct publicity for upcoming events and activities
  • Make logistical arrangements for program support such as ordering materials, arranging meetings, creating schedules
  • If needed, running educational and job readiness workshops for students, as well as filling in for activity leaders
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as needed by the Program Coordinator



WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm
  • Willing to work occasional weekends or extended hours when needed for special events and trips.
