Program Page: Young Adult Initiative
This program is in the Community Based Programs / Community Outreach Department.
This program has allowed us the opportunity to provide an additional 50 young adults between the ages of 17-24 education and career services. These services include GED instruction, workshops, computer training, counseling, job placement, and follow up services for up to 3 months. A Career Education Instructor is dedicated entirely to the program, which seeks to provide Job Readiness Skills, College and Career Counseling, Time and Budget Management skills and Computer Training. The goal of the program is to strengthen participant’s self-esteem and motivation as it relates to their career goals and provides a job hunt support group for all participants. The instructor will also serve as a Job Developer to establish job linkages with surrounding agencies and businesses. Follow up will be an extensive and critical part of this service. With assistance from the program aide, a database will be created to record pertinent information and to follow-up with students three months after they exit the program.
