Student Support Services/Bilingual Counselor

LOCATION: Mott Haven Village Prep High School- 701 St. Ann’s Avenue, Bronx, NY


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director and School Principal, the Student Support Coordinator will work with the Guidance Counselor, Social workers, and CPLP staff to support students in supplemental programs, services, and to improve communication with Advisors on student progress.


Specific Duties:
• Check-in with students regarding their attendance and participation in supplemental activities such as night school, tutoring, College Now, and more.
• Develop a system for helping advisors support students in their progress (i.e. offering information about advisee’s attendance, etc.)
• Conduct one-on-one as well as small group sessions with students addressing concerns with meeting graduation requirements, completion of supplemental activities, and the college preparation process.
• Help celebrate and recognize student accomplishments.
• Additional office and program duties as may be requested by Program Director and Principal.
• Participate in weekly attendance meetings
• Seek alternative support system for students.


Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in education, human services, or related field. Masters degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years experience with youth at risk and/or school setting.
• Prior experience with counseling and/or groups.
• Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, presentation and leadership skills.
• Demonstrated initiative, creativity, flexibility and follow-through.


In addition, the coordinator must demonstrate:


• Excellent analytical skills, i.e.; be able to analyze problems presented by work and find practical solutions that produce good results.
• Excellent skills in verbal and written communication, including effective platform delivery.
• The ability to develop goals and objectives.
• Strong communications and leadership skills are essential.\\ • Coordinator should be computer literate and capable of hands on work in Microsoft Word / Word Perfect or similar word processing programs.


PAY RATE: Salary Range: $38,000-$40,000 Hours: Generally 9-5, but evening work may occasionally be required.
