Summary/ Objective

Lehman Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) is an academically intensive full-time evening program, with additional post-secondary planning and social supports. The program is designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school. Lehman YABC High School is located at 3000 E Tremont Avenue in the Westchester Square area of the Bronx. East Side House Settlement is directly responsible for the administration of the program’s Learning-to-Work Program, which enhances the academic component by offering additional academic support, career and education exploration, work preparation, skills development, and internships.

Under the supervision of the Program Director at Lehman YABC with latitude for independent judgment, the Social Worker, functioning as a collaborative member of a team, will provide case management, individual, group, and family counseling to students. In addition, the Social Worker will work with the families of students to address issues that are hindering student’s performance. The Social Worker will provide those services necessary to provide satisfactory solution to the challenges and issues faced by the student and other family members. The Social Worker will also receive clinical supervision from the East Side House Social Services Department.

Essential Functions
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Build relationships with participating students through consistent individual/group counseling sessions.
• Identify, establish and maintain linkages with community providers, to build capacity around social service assistance for students and families.
• Maintain an active list of referral sources (psychotherapy, intense counseling, homelessness, etc.).
• Provide referrals for student and student’s family. Follow up on referrals to determine outcomes and help resolve barriers.
• Communicate progress and obstacles with relevant parties.
• Facilitate Case Conferencing.
• Create and facilitate in-house workshops to staff around social emotional awareness and best practices.
• Create and facilitate groups for students which address the current needs of the school.
• Collaborate with participants’ families on ways to increase student performance.
• Plan and conduct family or parent meetings.
• Facilitate workshops to parents/custodians.
• Attend administrative meetings, program trainings and staff development.
• Attend supervision sessions with Program Directors.
• Attend clinical supervision with Social Work staff from the Social Services Department.
• Complete all program documentation.
• Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned via East Side House Community Development.
• Arrange and attend field trips, special events and extracurricular activities.
• Provide other program support functions as assigned by the Program Directors.
• Maintain flexible hours and work days; some evening and weekends required.

Education, Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
• Master’s in Social Work (MSW) with experience workings with youth and their families.
• Demonstrated record of positively influencing youth.
• Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, communication, organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a team oriented environment and multi-task.
• Strong interpersonal skills and time management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.
• Fluency in Spanish and English a plus.

Supervisory Responsibility
This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
Business casual. This job operates in a professional school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel is expected for this position.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is generally a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position.
School program runs Monday- Thursday from 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Hours on Fridays, during summers and other non-school week days are generally 9 AM- 5 PM. Some weekend, overnight college trips may be required. Work days/hours subject to change based on ESH’s needs.
