Bridging The Digital Divide By Keeping Older Adults Connected

With an “app’ for basically everything, technology is vital in order to stay connected, stay in touch, to do work and live in today’s digital world. Unfortunately, the digital divide is all too real for many residents we serve in the Bronx and especially so for older adults. To help bridge the digital divide, East Side House partnered with Mayor Eric Adams’s office, NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA), T-Mobile, and AARP and distributed 1,000 LG G Pad 5 tablets (provided by DFTA) to older adults. T-Mobile also graciously offered free internet access for the rest of 2022 to go with every tablet handed out. We are grateful for Deputy Mayor Anne Williams-Isom, and the Mayor’s office along with all the city officials and organizations for advocating for older adults in our community and making sure they are connected to family, friends and the world digitally.
